Australia’s Jack Thompson will head into the weekend at the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times as the leading Australian on the leaderboard, continuing his resurgence after overcoming a challenging period of self-doubt to sit at six-under-par through 36 holes at Sentosa Golf Club.

The 25-year-old endured a testing stretch midway through the 2025 season, grappling with confidence and consistency while competing across The International Series events on the Asian Tour, where increasingly elite, global fields raised the bar week after week.
But a pair of standout results in the same season — runner-up at the Saudi Open presented by PIF and tied-second at the 104th New Zealand Open presented by Sky Sport — helped reset his belief and lay the foundation for his current form. He also finished 10th on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit.
“They give me confidence that I can compete,” said Thompson. “Winning’s tough, but those results give me something to draw on. I’ll take that belief into the weekend, and hopefully turn it into a first win on The International Series.”
For Thompson, the biggest shift has been internal.
“Belief is the key,” he added. “Everyone has that voice asking if you’re good enough, learning to manage that has been huge.
“You can’t just tell yourself, you need results to back it up. Even with a tough middle stretch last year, physically and mentally, I’d still take a season with a couple of seconds. That’s golf, it’s always up and down.”

That renewed clarity has shown this week at Sentosa Golf Club, where discipline and intent have kept him firmly in contention.
“Everything felt really solid,” he said. “I birdied my last three holes yesterday, so that gave me good momentum coming into today, and then I birdied the first, which helped build confidence early.
With two places in The Open Championship on offer, Thompson is aware of the stakes but is staying grounded.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about it,” he admitted. “But the process doesn’t change. I’ve been in that position before at the New Zealand Open last year and missed out by a shot, I just want to execute better this time.”
As one of the leading Australians in the field, Thompson is also embracing the broader platform that The International Series provides as a pathway to the LIV Golf League.
“I’ll play as many as I can,” he said. “They’re great events with strong fields and real opportunities. It’s a great pathway — and if it opens doors later in the year, I’ll definitely take it.”
