Casey eyes a legacy moment at Link Hong Kong Open

2025-10-29

LIV Golf star Paul Casey returns to Hong Kong this week with a clear goal: to conquer the challenge that eluded him last year and etch his name into the history books at the Link Hong Kong Open.

After a heartbreaking playoff loss to Abraham Ancer at the 2024 LIV Golf Hong Kong, Casey is back at Hong Kong Golf Club, determined to turn redemption into victory.

The Englishman knows the Fanling layout well - and respects its difficulty: “The 18th, without a doubt, is challenging. Birding that hole is always special. Honestly, every hole at Fanling is wonderful, it’s a truly great golf course and very popular among the players. It challenges every facet of the game. You need to be accurate off the tee and nowhere is that truer than the 18th. It’s a fantastic climax to a great course.

“I enjoy playing all over the world and have been privileged to win at golf clubs that are steeped in history,” said Casey. “Hopefully I can add Hong Kong Golf Club to that list this time around.”

Casey, a key member of Crushers GC, has enjoyed a strong season on the LIV Golf circuit, with a tied runner-up finish in Dallas and two top-five results - one of which came right here at Hong Kong Golf Club, a course he knows intimately and speaks about with genuine affection.

The Link Hong Kong Open, now in its third year as part of the elevated International Series on the Asian Tour, is the seventh of nine events in the 2025 season. With a ticket to the LIV Golf League and coveted direct slots to The Open and Masters in 2026 on the line, the stakes are high, and Casey is ready to embrace the challenge.

He’ll be joining a star-studded field that includes Major champions Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Graeme McDowell, and Martin Kaymer, making this one of the most competitive editions of the tournament yet.

The 48-year-old is bringing with him not just world-class form, but a deep appreciation for the city, the fans, and the historic venue in Fanling that hosts the Link Hong Kong Open.

But for Casey, returning to Hong Kong is about more than just competition.

“There are almost too many things to list about what I enjoy the Hong Kong schedule! First, we all know what a fantastic golf course this is, it’s one of the greats. But Hong Kong as a city is just incredible. To me, it’s probably the most energetic city in the world, the vibrance, the passion for everything, whether it’s food, culture, or life in general. This is where it’s at.

“But for me, it always comes down to the people. The history of this tournament is amazing, and we’re playing for a prestigious trophy this week, but without the fans who turn up and bring that energy, it wouldn’t be the same. I’ve experienced that for over 20 years now, my first visit was a long time ago because I’m older than some of these guys! I love coming back because of the friendships and relationships we’ve built over the years.

“This week is going to be a great event, and as players, we just hope they don’t go with that treacherous front-right pin position they love to use! But we’ll enjoy the challenge. I’m really looking forward to relishing my week here.”

With his experience, form, and passion for the venue, Casey is not just a contender, he’s a player to watch closely as the Link Hong Kong Open unfolds at one of Asia’s most iconic golf destinations.
