Young talents embrace global stage and pathway on The International Series

A new generation of international talent is embracing the global opportunities presented by The International Series, with this week’s Singapore Open presented by The Business Times offering not only coveted places in The 154th Open and valuable Rankings points, but also a platform for rising stars to test themselves across new environments and cultures.

Spain’s Pablo Ereno is among those making the most of that opportunity. The 22-year-old caught attention earlier this year at the LIV Golf Promotions event, where he fired a four-under-par 66 to progress through one of the most demanding qualifying stages in professional golf. That performance earned him a start in Japan, his debut on The International Series, where he made the cut and gained valuable experience.

Now in Singapore for his second start, Ereno is relishing every moment of the journey.

“It’s been really cool. It was my first time in Japan a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s my first time in Singapore,” he said. “I’m travelling to places I never thought I’d get to visit, so it’s been a lot of fun. I’m just trying to enjoy it, make the most of the opportunity, and hopefully find my way onto LIV Golf in the future.”

Fellow young professional Julian Perico shares a similar outlook. After finishing tied-29th in Japan, the Peruvian arrives in Singapore full of confidence, and appreciation for the level of competition on the Series.

“Japan was one of the best tournaments I’ve played as a professional, outside of being a LIV reserve,” he said. “To get another opportunity here in Singapore is incredible. I was here for LIV about a month ago and I love this place. It’s one of my favourite courses in the world, so I’m really excited for this week.”

Like many of his peers, Perico views The International Series as a clear pathway to the sport’s elite tier.

“That’s the goal,” he added. “You don’t know how many chances you’ll get, so it’s about making the most of every opportunity. I did that fairly well in Japan, and I’m looking to build on it this week.”

Two-time Australasian Tour winner Jack Buchanan, who competed across a full International Series schedule last season after progressing through LIV Golf Promotions, echoes that mindset. Having recorded a career-best tied-eighth finish at International Series Morocco, Buchanan has already experienced first-hand the level required to compete on the global stage.

“It was a great experience last season,” he said. “All the events were really well run, and Morocco was probably my favourite, mainly because I played well there. Overall, it was a really solid season.

“The ultimate goal is to get onto LIV Golf,” he added. “I’m hoping to play as many events as I can this year, so it’s about making the most of every opportunity and seeing where that leads.”
