Three International Series stalwarts, American compatriots John Catlin and Andy Ogletree, along with Spain's David Puig, will be competing in the world's oldest golf Major at this week’s Open Championship, which tees off today.
Catlin, the most recent International Series victor of the three with a triumph at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn in March, aims to bring his A-game to the west coast of Scotland this week. Following his Macau victory, Catlin then secured a win at the Saudi Open in April.
The six-time Asian Tour winner was recently beaten in a play-off by New Zealand's Ben Campbell at the International Series Morocco, and currently leads The International Series Rankings – which provides the number one player the golden ticket onto the LIV Golf League.
Ogletree, the 2023 International Series Rankings champion, is set to make his debut at The 152nd Open this week. The American secured two victories on The International Series in 2023, winning in Qatar and England, following his first victory in Egypt in 2022.
However, the 26-year-old will be aiming to elevate his performance following a series of results that have fallen short of his expectations. His standout result this year came in April at LIV Golf Adelaide, where he achieved a commendable third-place finish.
It will be a first taste of The Open for Puig too, after qualifying for the final major on the golf calendar as he stormed to victory in the IRS Prima Malaysian Open on the Asian Tour in February this year.
The 22-year-old secured his first professional win of his career on The International Series in Singapore last October and did so in style – winning by an emphatic five-shot margin at the Tanah Merah County Club.
There will be 10 International Series competitors taking part including 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa, two-time LIV Golf League victor Joaquin Niemann of Chile and 2023 Saudi Open champion Denwit Boriboonsub of Thailand.
